File Description :

FS2002 Sukhoi Su-7 BM "FITTER-A",of the
Soviet VVS ground attack force. Model & textures By Brett Hoskins. Paint scheme
based on color profiles by Americo Maia.

The Su-7 'Fitter-A' versions
Su-7
======
During the early 1950s, supersonic fighters were required to replace the
subsonic MiG-15 and MiG-17. The recently reformed Sukhoi Design Bureau
designed two similar aircraft, one as an interceptor for IA PVO
(Air Defence Fighter Aviation), the other as a tactical fighter for
VVS (Soviet Air Force). Both versions were tested with swept and
delta wing prototypes. The interceptor version was selected with a
delta wing, and resulted in the Su-9 Fishpot. One hundred of the
swept wing tactical fighter were produced between 1958 and 1959,
entering service with VVS in 1960 as the Su-7 Fitter A.

Su-7B
=======
The success of the MiG-21 as a tactical fighter, along
with the US F-100 and F-105 fighters bombers, leading to
a similar requirement being for the VVS. The Su-7 was
reworked into a supersonic low altitude fighter bomber. Mission
radius was unimpressive and long runways were required, but the
aircraft was well regarded for its toughness and handling. Produced
from 1960, entering service in 1961.

Su-7BM
======
The Fitter usually carried two drop tanks under the
fuselage, due to low range. Two pylons were added
outboard of the existing unit. Produced from 1962 till
1964, with service entry in 1963. Also exported to Czechoslovakia and India.

Su-7BKL
=======
As a first step to improving field performance, the wheeled
undercarriage could be replaced by skis, a brake chute was
fitted with the option of RATO (Rocket Assisted Take Off). Plumbed
for 4 drop tanks. Additional pylons fitted from 1969 (later
refitted to Su-7B & Su-7BM). Produced 1965 till 1971.

Su-7BMK
=======
Export version of Su-7BKL, with ski option removed. Also produced
from 1965 till 1971. Used by VVS also, other customers include
Afghanistan, Algeria, Cuba, Egypt, Iraq, North Korea, Poland, Romania and Syria.

Su-7IG
======
The Su-7 series was well regarded by the pilots but, for a
tactical aviation aircraft suffered from requiring too long a
runway. The Su-7IG was the prototype for the variable geometry
wings which lead to the Su-17 family. Just for clarification, the
weapon pylon layout was changed. The outboard wing pylon was
replaced by an inboard wing pylon (UW2 becomes UW1 and UW1 becomes UW2).

Legal stuff.

No warranties are implied. Use at your own risk. I don't think it will
mess anything up, but sometimes you just never know.

I sincerely hope you enjoy this model of the Su-7.

thank you

More Information about the Sukhoi Su-7.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sukhoi SU-7BM is a supersonic, single engine strike/attack fighter of all
metal construction.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Construction:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The swept two-spar wing is swept 60 deg. at leading edge, has Fowler flaps
and boosted ailerons. All controls are hydraulic.

Each wing carries two prominent fences. The semi-monocoque fuselage is
mainly of cylindrical shape, bulged coke bottle fashion at rear end
according to area ruling principles. The air intake has an in-flight
adjustable centre body with di-electric cone for radar rangefinder.

The pressurised cockpit is equipped with the KS-4 ejection seat. The rear
fuselage carries four petal-type airbrakes, controlled hydraulically. The
vertical empendage has a 60 deg. sweep, the slab stabiliser having
counterweight spikes at its tip.

The hydraulically activated undercarriage has a forward-retracting nose
wheel, the main wheels, retracting towards the fuselage centreline. The
wheels are carried on trailing arms, the skids on arms with dampers.

The power plant consists of the axial-flow Lyulka AL-7F-1 (TRD-31)
turbo-jet of 66.48 kN dry thrust and 94.08 kN with reheat.

For shortening the take-off two JATO bottles SPRD 110- rated at 29.4 kN
thrust are used.

The Sukhoi Su-7 is a single seat ground attack aircraft that was long a
standard tactical fighter-bomber with the Soviet Air Force. The
development of Su-7 began in the early 1950's.

First prototype called S-1 "Strela" made its first flight in 1955. The
Su-7 was unveiled to the West at the 1956 Soviet Aviation Day display at
Tushino Airport outside Moscow.

The prototype came out to be very promising and Su-7 went in production
several years later, with modifications including the Su-7B and Su-7BKL.
The airplane was exported to Czechoslovakia, Poland, Romania, China, and
other countries.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Armament
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The SU-7BKL has powerful fixed armament - two 30 mm cannon NR-30 (70
rounds/gun).

Two to six rocket pods, of 16 unguided 57 mm 55 rockets to each pod,
unguided air to surface rocket, 1.000 kg of bombs etc, could be carried on
the two fuselage and four underwing hard points.

SU-7's can also carry air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles.

The SU-7BKL can also fulfil the photo reconnaissance role.
